Shoreline

I don't need anything
except to reach out of my window
and feel it rushing free
And I don't want to go to sleep
cause it makes me close my eyelids
when there's so much more to see
Big sky grows
and my soul knows
I have to go
But my body's slow, too slow
I feel like I am an astronaut and
taking off my spacesuit will surely make me die
And other people feel the same but
They're just like me they can't speak
We're all just buzzing by
Big sky grows
and my soul knows
I have to go
But my body's slow, too slow
Wading in the shallows
Why am I so hollow?
Never learned to dive
And I hope that I can change
Sitting on the shoreline
Licking up all the brine
Watching swimmers shine
And I hope that I can change

I've grown tall, taller now
Above creaking boughs
I laugh at the sprawl
Waiting for those heavy hands
I can't wait till it's over
I can't wait till it's over
I've grown tall, I'm not me
Sea legs give beneath
Sprawled out on the sand
Flies buzz, yawning skull gets hot
I can't wait till it's over
I can't wait till it's over

Summer comes through
When I'm out on the grass with you
And my skull's leaking
Watching you run
Yeah, you're chasing your tail for fun
Till you get sleepy
Automate me make me you
Show me everything you do
Cause I'm breaking bottles on sidewalk
and you don't even know
Chasing you now
cause I want you to show me how
to be so wild
Running toward the sun
Yeah the two of us getting drunk
For awhile
Automate me make me you
Show me everything you do
Cause I'm breaking bottles on sidewalk
and you don't even know

Make you happy, pretend I'm happy
Cause I'm a sheet in thin air
and when you grab it you'll find nothing there at all
Maybe one day I'll collect me
I'll build my bones and pick my body
And when I pick out my eyes
I'll put two stars in so I can finally look like the sky

Sunshine

The sun breaks the blinds
in slanted lines
His eyes peel wide, tired and bloodshot
And bed springs groan below
And rusty bones
Snap and pop from terrible sunshine
His mouth is dry and he can't taste
Anything much these days
He likes it more when it rains
But still the sun keeps burning
He's up and running out the door
The sun is coming toward
He stumbles on the floor of black and tiles
And red smile is creeping up behind
It burns with nasty shine
A wisp of fire twine around his ankles
The sun it puts a golden key
in his back and laughs with glee
His eyes turn black, he smiles wide
And walks the checkered highway
Laughing in a fire deep inside the sun
